Infectious does Fabric8

Attention San Franciscans and anyone who will be in our fair city before August 18th! Fabric8, the indie design boutique and gallery located at3318 22nd Street here in SF, has expanded it’s space and is currently hosting a show which features the works of our very own Erik Otto, Reuben Rude and Blaine Fontana. We hopped on over last Saturday night for the stellar opening reception with our good friend and catalog artist, Junko Mizuno to it check out. In the back Erik, Reuben and Blaine’s pieces hung beautifully on the newly painted white walls, co-mingling with the works of other great artists like Kelly Tunstall and Brett Amory. In the storefront gallery, a group show entitled “Creature Features” honored monsters and other worldly creatures. Oddly enough, having to pee led to the biggest treat of all – Erik Otto’s beautiful installation that dangled above a clawfoot tub that has been turned into a fish pond.

We all had a blast and highly recommend checking it out. Much love to Fabric8 and their amazing new gallery space!

On another note, we’re going for round two tonight at 111 Minna‘s Sketch Tuesdays. Our main man, Dennis McNulty, will be among the artists at the long table sketching away. If you’re around tonight, come join us!

People & Robots: Best Friends Forever Design Challenge

Greetings all,

Sending out a friendly heads-up to all our lovely Infectious Artists. Today we’re launching a brand new creative design challenge People and Robots: Best Friends Forever sponsored by our friends over at Mozilla Firefox. We’re looking for designs that capture the spirit of humans and robots living in harmony.

Please note that submissions don’t need to feature the Firefox logo and don’t need to be composited (unless you really want to). They do need to feature some robot and human BFF action; think “I’m programmed for etiquette, not destruction” rather than “Hasta la vista baby”. The first place winner receives $1000 cash. Second place gets a Roomba (it’s the closest we could get to WALL-E). And all winners will receive 5% royalties, $100 of Infectious products, and some Firefox schwag.

P.S.  If you’re going to be down at San Diego Comic-Con this year, follow us on Twitter. We’ll be touring the halls and handing out free high-fives all day Friday.

Join the entire Infectious crew tonight at the Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art gallery at 49 Geary Street from 6-10 pm. One of our own, Dennis “White Lightning” McNulty, will be exhibiting his amazing artwork in a solo show entitled 1981 Pervert.

This exhibition, inspired by his childhood discovery and fascination with the patterns, palettes, and compositions of the pinup illustrations, car ads, and images of menswear featured in his father’s collection of Playboy,  consists of 7 large scale pieces, 4 small pieces, and a 12 ft. 3-D wall installation. Learn more about the show here.

Come and help us toast our lovable and talented Dennis.

The San Francisco Chronicle hearts Infectious

05/06/2009

Chronicle_article

Check out the SF Chronicle today which has a rather lovely feature on Infectious in the Datebook section :

“Even as big firms and chains crumble and venture capital dries up, a feisty creative outfit called Infectious has given new life to the city’s startup culture – with skin. Not the outermost and largest human body organ, but “adhesive art skin”- a removable film that transforms generic electronics like laptops, mobile phones and even cars into artistic and personal statements – not unlike tattoos and statement T-shirts”.

You can read the sage words of our ceo Tim Roberts and also a nice little interview with Infectious artist Reuben Rude in the online version at SF Date right here.

Congratulations to our designer Mikey Sison (seen above), who we feel has a rosy future ahead of him as a back of the head model.

Infectious Gets Down with Kevin Tong and Jenny Lewis

Ktong poster

Los Angeles-based artist, Kevin Tong visited last week for the Jenny Lewis concert. Tong created this beautiful drive-in movie art for the rock poster and came up to SF for the show last week where he met up with some of the Infectious crew. Great fun was had by all.

Today, he dropped by the office with some signed copies of the Jenny Lewis poster. Sweeeet!

You can catch up with all the rest of his news here.

They Like it! Hey Mikey!

Monochrome by Mikey Ion

A big, firm hand shake and many congratulations are in order to one of the latest additions to the Infectious catalog, Mikey Ion, whose winning iPhone skin was picked up by several notable blogs today. It is time for him to bask in the glory of his great design. Because of you, Mikey, a popular hand-held mini computer has merged with the likeness of a beloved vintage pocket game console. For this, we thank you.

So, “If you’re stuck in purgatory between vintage tech and new school gadgets, use this sticker skin to make your iPhone go incognito.”

Sneak peek: upcoming art from Cey Adams

24/05/2009

We love our community of artists and art fans and want to get them more involved in the curating process over here at Infectious. As a little experiment, we’d like you to help us choose what pieces of art should be the next ones that we invite directly into the catalog.

Picture 1

We are currently in discussions with Cey Adams and have four of his typography designs up over in our forums. If you don’t already know Cey, he is an institution in the world of Hip Hop art and design, having been part of Rush artist management, Def Jam Records and the Drawing Board. If you’re familiar with The Beastie Boys (he did the album artwork for Hello Nasty!), Run DMC, De La Soul, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and the Notorious B.I.G., then you are already familiar with Cey’s work.

We’re looking to make products out of two (maybe three) pieces of his designs. We want you to tell us which ones. So head over to the forums and share your thoughts, questions, constructive criticism and as always… compliments :) Cey will be joining in the discussion at some point.

We love hearing feedback – let us know whether you think this is a good idea!

Infectious Eats Popdeck: Art skate decks come to Infectious

13/05/2009

infectious_eats_popdeck_blog

We started Infectious believing that an online community was one of the best ways to create great art products. And for the last year we have had the fortune to work with incredible artists creating iPhone skins, iPod skins, car decals, adhesive wall art and laptop art. Call it our little crusade to make the stuff in your life less boring. Well, today we are excited to announce, that Infectious art will move onto yet another surface…. skatedecks! But instead of starting from scratch, we are acquiring Popdeck… a website dedicated to community driven skate deck design.

Infectious eats Popdeck Limited Edition Skate Deck

We’re kicking things off with a Skate Deck Design Challenge for the first 5 skate decks that will be added to the Infectious Skate Deck Catalog. Winning prizes range from $1000 to a limited edition, never to be sold “Infectious Eats Popdeck” skate deck. Parker and Adam, the founders of Popdeck will be joining us as guest judges for the design challenge. These guys did an awesome job of taking an interesting idea and getting it off the ground. We are privileged to take it over and grow the project from here.

We’ll be adding the Popdeck catalog of decks to our website this summer and at that time shutting down Popdeck. We’re excited to have the Popdeck community becoming part of Infectious and hope you’ll join us in the crusade against boring. Long live art.

Tim
