Three new pieces of community designed goodness join the catalog this week!
Congratulations to Michael Tesch and his beautifully rendered Manowar’s Curse which was originally created for a campaign to spread awareness about the plight of marine life. Also joining the Infectious family is Greek graphic designer Mike Karolos who shows off his mad ninja Photoshop skills in Go… Freestyle. And last, but not least, is Canadian freelance artist Nicole Bruce, aka Nibru, whose eclectic, spacey, provocative style shines through in her winning design, surfin space.

We proudly welcome Cey Adams to the catalog today!

He has a long standing professional relationship with hip hop mogul Russell Simmons. As the Creative Director of Def Jam Recordings, he was one of the founders of the Drawing Board, the label’s in house visual design firm, where he worked creating visual identities, album covers, logos, billboards and advertising campaigns for Run DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, De La Soul, DMX, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z. In recent years he was also hired by Dave Chappelle to create the logo for his Chappelle’s Show. Cey now continues to bring his work to new audiences collaborating with brands like JanSport, Adidas and Nike. He recently published a book titled DEFinition: the art and design of hip hop.
Check out his Infectious designs Fresh, Peace and Power.

Congratulations to this week’s Open Submissions winners!
Hollis Brown Thornton joins the family with two pieces – VHS Heroes (which wins the award for most creative use of Sharpies ever) and The Birth of the Giant Turtle, which is based on the Native American creation myth.
We also welcome fellow San Franciscan Charmaine Olivia into the catalog with her rather dandy A Deer Wearing Gym Socks artwork.
Come and help us chose what art we should turn into products next! We have some stellar skate decks, creatively cut out Apple logo laptop skins and some all round beautiful artwork waiting for you to show them some love in the voting gallery.

Our friends at Mozilla approached us with an idea a few months back. What if we pulled our communities together and challenged them to create art based on the ideas of collaboration, innovation and good deeds? And from this discussion, the Community Art Project was born. A project designed for artists, art lovers and people who care about openness, creativity and community on the Internet.
Infectious artists Zeptonn, David Lanham, Reuben Rude, Etsu Meusy and Paulo Arraiano kick things off with the first original art pieces being released as part of the project. Their works are immediately available as laptop skins, iPhone skins, car decals, desktop wallpaper, iPhone wallpaper, t-shirts and even Personas for your Firefox browser. And come mid-July we will introduce an open design challenge for creating the second set of art in the series. Anyone interested in making the internet a better place with their art is welcome to participate.
Also check out Mozilla’s Creative Collective, their new initiative that is dedicated to building up a network of designers who can share their talents with the world while helping to promote to Mozilla Project. If you’re interested, you can sign up here.
Do we really believe that the Internet is a public resource that should remain open and accessible to all? Indeed we do. So much so, that as part of this project Infectious and our contributing artists are donating 20% of sales to the Mozilla foundation. Now do your part… go get some art now!

Congratulations to this week’s Open Submissions winner Brett Wilkinson (aka Onesidezero) who serves up some more stellar artwork with his dot-to-dot-loving pyramid characters in The Forest. (Though it wasn’t inspired by The Cure song “A Forest”, Brett does recommend playing the song while admiring the artwork, as the two pair up together remarkably well.)
When he’s not creating beautiful artwork for Infectious, Brett has been busy working on illustrations for two books – Taschen’s ‘Illustration Now!’ book and ‘The Ark Project’ by IdN, as well as some artwork for The Big Chill festival. Check out www.onesidezero.co.uk for more updates.

Check out the SF Chronicle today which has a rather lovely feature on Infectious in the Datebook section :
“Even as big firms and chains crumble and venture capital dries up, a feisty creative outfit called Infectious has given new life to the city’s startup culture – with skin. Not the outermost and largest human body organ, but “adhesive art skin”- a removable film that transforms generic electronics like laptops, mobile phones and even cars into artistic and personal statements – not unlike tattoos and statement T-shirts”.
You can read the sage words of our ceo Tim Roberts and also a nice little interview with Infectious artist Reuben Rude in the online version at SF Date right here.
Congratulations to our designer Mikey Sison (seen above), who we feel has a rosy future ahead of him as a back of the head model.

Los Angeles-based artist, Kevin Tong visited last week for the Jenny Lewis concert. Tong created this beautiful drive-in movie art for the rock poster and came up to SF for the show last week where he met up with some of the Infectious crew. Great fun was had by all.
Today, he dropped by the office with some signed copies of the Jenny Lewis poster. Sweeeet!
You can catch up with all the rest of his news here.

Infectious founding artist Nico Berry’s latest design Rooftops is his ode to the big city and and the trains, pigeons, graffiti, water-towers and buildings that make it beautiful. (He assures us it has nothing to do with the 1989 “combat dance” movie of the same name.)
Nico is currently working on some semi-secret projects that may, or may not, include some three-dimensional graffiti (the mind boggles!), a set of playing cards that chart the history of hip-hop and a children’s book. You can follow all his news at nicoberry.com.

San Franciscan artist Alphonzo Solorzano describes his style as “very graphic, line oriented, with a mix between rendered and flat graphic elements”, a style that he thinks might have been inspired by his constant pilfering of his older brother’s graphic novel collection when he was a kid. He has exhibited in museums, galleries and alternative art spaces in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and abroad. We actually spotted his artwork when the Infectious team went down to the Madrone Bar a couple of months back and we all fell in love with his artwork painted on vintage speaker boxes. He’s currently working on a collaborative t-shirt project with some fellow San Francisco artists.
